Funds Allocation!!!!!!

By Tooba Altaf

Recently all of us have seen a lot of fuss going around in University of Karachi (UoK) regarding the funds issue. Students have also witnessed protests from teachers and staff members. The classes didn't take place in Uok for couple of days due to the ongoing funds episode.

It has been ages since we have been hearing about limited funds issue. But what I have understood from my very limited observation is that whatever funds are available, Uok is unable to utilize them properly.

Our department of Mass Communication is beautifully built but in hindsight, it lacks major facilities. Everyone gets impressed by the building and we too take pride in having a separate spacious building. But the crores spent merely on the building could have been used for better purposes. For instance, equipments could have been bought which would have helped students to get the feel of practical work in their respective discipline. Moreover from now on some amount should be fixed for the magazine or newspaper of the department which would provide students an opportunity to showcase their talent and plenty several other things could be done.

Another example which comes to my find on wasting of funds is of the garden grown outside the department of IR. I remember taking my subsidiary class sitting on the floor and struggling to hear the lecture, our teacher mentioned it rightly that the chairs or more spacious lecture rooms are more important than this garden or greenery grown for the better look of university.

Somehow responsible officials of Uok have paid more attention spending on waste that means concrete ignoring the real needs of different departments which is a shame and something to worry. There should be a proper check and balance on the investments of departments and proper plan should be followed in order to facilitate students.

  2. well, i completely agree with you Tooba.. actually i personally believe that our university certainly do face a shortage of funds secondly, the money provided is not carefully spent in our university besides thanks to our Honorable govt, they are spending money in building a monument of BB and have reduced the educational funds.. this shows how literate our peolpe are!
